In Ethernet equipment, when the PHY chip is connected to RJ, a network transformer is usually added. The center tap of some network transformers is grounded. Some are connected to the power supply, and the power supply value can be different, including 3.3V, 2.5V, and 1.8V. Then how to connect the middle tap (PHY end) of the transformer?
A. Why are some of the center taps connected to power? Some are grounded?
This is mainly determined by the UTP port driver type of the PHY chip used. Drive types are divided into: voltage drive and current drive. Connect the power supply when driving with voltage; connect the capacitor to ground when driving with current. Therefore, the connection method of the center tap is closely related to the UTP port drive type of the PHY chip. At the same time, please refer to the datasheet and reference design of the chip.
Note: If the middle tap is connected incorrectly, the network port will be extremely unstable or even blocked.
RJ plugs are divided into two types: unshielded and shielded. The shielded RJ plug is covered with a shielding coating, and its physical appearance is no different from that of an unshielded plug. There is also an industrial shielded RJ plug specially planned for the factory environment, which is allocated and used with the shielding module. RJ plugs often use a non-slip plug sheath, which is used to maintain the connecting plug, prevent sliding and facilitate plugging. In addition, it has a variety of colors to choose from, which can be provided with the same color as the embedded icon for correct connection. The information module or the RJ connecting plug and the twisted pair termination have two structures, T568A or T568B, which are the structures supported by the general wiring standards of TIA/EIA-568-A and TIA/EIA-568-B. The RJ crystal header pin sequence number should be investigated as follows: turn the front of the RJ plug (the side with the copper pin) toward you, the end with the copper pin upwards, the end of the connecting cable downwards, and the 8 copper pins from left to right. The needles are numbered in sequence from 1 to 8.
